Don Capria
Don Capria is a multifaceted creative professional—drummer, music manager, graffiti artist, filmmaker, and author—best known for his true crime biography Colombo: The Unsolved Murder, based on the life of mob icon Joe Colombo.
He began his filmmaking career directing music videos, and in 2014 wrote and directed Eulogy which won best ensemble in the 2014 Queens World Film Festival. At the same time, Don was working in music management, helping launch the career of dance-pop artist Dawin, whose hit song Dessert achieved platinum sales in nine countries. The success was driven by a strategic, social media-focused digital marketing campaign, sparking Don’s interest in direct-to-consumer strategies and how they could be applied to the film and television space.
Concentrating on his true passion – writing and filmmaking, Don began developing a new screenplay alongside a cost-efficient marketing plan. In late 2019, he filmed a proof-of-concept for a scripted TV series titled Abaddon, starring Erika Alexander, with the goal of presenting the project to studios with a built-in marketing campaign. The project was put on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Undeterred, Don wrote and directed Anecdota in 2021, a post-apocalyptic horror short starring 11-year-old newcomer Bella Grace. The film went on to win the audience award at Sinister Film Festival and actor Bella Grace was awarded Best Actor in a horror. This film further fueled his momentum toward writing and directing his first feature.
That feature, Director’s Cut, is a slasher horror film about a young band filming their first music video with a mysterious director—only to disappear without a trace. Capria partnered with Anthony Carpenito and Jack Valenza who raised capital and secured locations for the film. During development, Carpenito introduced Don to Brett Marks, a 30-year theater owner and established figure in the theatrical world. Together, the team shot a proof of concept and secured a limited theatrical run, launching at 100 Regal Cinemas locations on Halloween 2024.
The film’s press and digital marketing campaign caught the attention of Chris Charalambous, Head of Film at Byron Allen’s Freestyle Digital Media. Byron Allen a pioneering media mogul, overcoming racial barriers and industry skepticism to build a multi-billion-dollar empire through strategic acquisitions and relentless entrepreneurship. Distribution was secured with Allen’s company, and Director’s Cut was released on VOD platforms on March 18, 2025.
The film marks the beginning of a much larger creative vision —one that Don is now actively bringing to life.
